Research Assistant Professor Position in MS-State, USA

One Research Assistant Professor position is available in the Systems Biology Laboratory (http://sysbio.cvm.msstate.edu) in the Department of Basic Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University.

This 12-month non-tenure track position is designed to strengthen and expand the current research program in systems biology and infectious diseases. This position will require a Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, computational biology, informatics, or a related field. We prefer candidates with strong background in machine learning and/or statistical modeling, such as but not limited to, importance sampling, reinforcement learning, Bayesian learning, sparse learning, multitask learning, and geospatial statistics. The bioinformatics skills such as structural modeling, sequence analysis, phylogenetic analyses, systems biology, and network analysis will be a plus. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, and have strong communication ability, and integrate well with a team with a very diverse background. S/he will be expected to work independently, to guide postdoctoral trainees and graduate students, and to actively publish research results and submit extramural grant applications.

The position is available immediately and salary will be commensurate with experience. Salary is available for three years with possible renewal upon mutual agreement and availability of funds. Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a brief summary of previous research experience, career goals, and the contact details of three references to Dr. Henry Wan at [email protected]. Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
