  • difference between illumina RRBS-seq and HM450 array

    Hi,
I have a question about the difference between illumina RRBS-seq and HM450 array for methylations sequencing.

I'm trying to understand what is RRBS advantage over HM450, if HM450 is covering 96% of CpG islands and 99% of RefSeq promoteres, while RRBC cover only 85% of CpG island? (And also the price per sample is similar...)

    Thanks!

One is NGS based and the other is an array. Arrays don't yield single base resolution, RRBS does. BTW, one could also just use a capture kit rather than RRBS and likely up the coverage to match the HM450 array.

      Thanks...

What kind of information do i get from the array?

You get probe intensities from the array that you then have to convert to a score and then map to a region (i.e., the same thing you get from all arrays). There are tools for processing both arrays and sequencing-based datasets, though the latter is under more development since people don't use arrays much anymore.

          Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
          by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

          Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
          by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
