Complete Genomics is seeking a gifted software engineer to develop algorithms and engineer solutions to analyze genomic variants and process next-generation DNA sequencing data. The role will require conceiving of algorithms and approaches to solve key problems in the sequence assembly pipeline, then designing, developing, testing, and deploying pragmatic solutions. The new hire will work on a pipeline that each day transforms trillions of sequenced bases into high quality human genome analyses.

The technology has proven itself by sequencing of hundreds of human genomes for customers from research institutions to pharmaceutical giants to clinical researchers. The assembly pipeline team is an amalgam of exceptional bioinformaticians and software engineers of diverse backgrounds, with active and lively cross-pollination of ideas and approaches. It is actively investigating improvements to aid in cancer research and analysis of hypervariable regions of the human genome.
• Exceptionally deep computational and analytic abilities, with significant programming experience solving large scale problems.
• Strong algorithm and implementation skills. Prior experience with C/C++, network & distributed computing, framework/API design, data structures and file formats, and Linux/Unix environments.
• Hungry to solve problems that significantly impact the customer experience.
• Bioinformatics, scientific computing or numerical processing experience a plus.
• Strong desire to learn basic genomics and other knowledge relevant to the role.
• 5+ years of experience designing and developing software.
• BS or MS in computer science, or equivalent experience (PhD a plus).
• Startup (industry) experience and good fit to culture of venture-backed startup company.
• Good collaboration & communication skills, ability to participate in interdisciplinary team.
