  • Galaxy site @PSU offline

It appears that the main galaxy site at PSU is completely offline. In fact none of the galaxy related domains are responding.

There was an "environmental failure in galaxy machine room" according to the main galaxy page yesterday afternoon but this appears to be more serious.

Is someone from Galaxy currently on this forum? Can you please post an update?

    Thanks.

Everything was gracefully shut down late yesterday to handle the environmental issues. We're hopeful that we'll have at least minimal services restored later today. Note that all data is safe, and things will be back to normal as soon as possible.

      Thanks for the update Dannon.

Perhaps you should consider putting up a temp page that says something to that effect. Sounds like the entire machine room must be down.

Not used to galaxy not showing up at all

        Neither are we

We would have put up a temporary page but the servers we'd usually host that (or redirect) from were also down, and we didn't want to update DNS records with the boxes coming back up sometime today.

That said, usegalaxy.org is back up now, albeit at reduced capacity.

the apache for galaxy.psu site responds with a generic apache index file. So you're online, but the directory for apache appears to be mis-configured (or pointing to the incorrect subserver). I'm not using the main "bx" address, so that might be part of my issue:P

I'm sure someone at PSU is aware of this and it's part of the overall issue...if not, I could contact Hardison or Albert - they probably don't have anything to do with website directly, but they'd know who to contact.

You caught it as services were coming back up, it's live now. And, hi!

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
                by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

                Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
                by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
