  • Computational Biology Postdoc Positions Available

    Position Summary:
A Computational Biology/Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Scholar position focusing on cancer genomics is available in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Maher (www.maherlab.com) at The McDonnell Genome Institute at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Our lab focuses on developing computational methods for analyzing large-scale cancer genomics data collections from solid tumors to improve our understanding of cancer biology and identify novel therapies for treating patients. Active projects address topics such RNA biology, structural variation, and cancer evolution.

This Postdoctoral Scholar position requires extensive communication and collaboration with our group of computational biologists, programmers, and clinicians, and includes opportunities to initiate and contribute to publication of novel methodologies and scientific findings.

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Evaluation and design of experimental plans for sequencing-based projects studying the genetic basis of cancer.
Implementation and development of automated pipelines to analyze high throughput sequencing data.
Integration of genetic and epigenetic changes in cancer including mutations, gene expression data, epigenetic modification, copy number and structural variation.
Integrated pathway and gene network analysis related to cancer.
Analyze and interpret results to communicate with others and produce scientific publications is required.

    Required Qualifications
A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or related field, with a solid background in programming and statistics.

    Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should be comfortable working on UNIX/Linux operating system, program with Perl and/or Python, and familiar with statistical analysis packages (SAS, R, or Bioconductor). Also expected to be familiar with bioinformatics tools and genomics databases. Previous experience in cancer genomics would be an advantage but is not essential.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, eager to acquire new knowledge and skills on a regular basis, and must demonstrate critical thinking skills. The ability to analyze and interpret results to communicate with others and produce scientific publications is required.

    To Apply
Please send a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to Dr. Christopher Maher at [email protected].

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
