    Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our group in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at UCLA (http://www.mimg.ucla.edu/faculty/xing/). The long-term goal of our research is to elucidate how genomic and environmental variation of RNA regulatory networks impacts phenotypic traits and diseases. We are a hybrid computational and experimental lab. We develop computational and statistical methods for analysis of transcriptome regulation and post-transcriptional RNA regulatory networks. We integrate computational studies with high-throughput and experimental research to systematically investigate the variation and dynamics of RNA regulatory networks between species, within human populations, and in response to developmental and disease signals.

The postdoctoral fellow will develop computational and statistical methods to study posttranscriptional RNA processing and modifications using deep RNA sequencing and related genomic technologies, and apply these tools to elucidate RNA regulatory networks in development, disease, and evolution. We are looking for candidates with a strong track record in bioinformatics, statistical genomics, or related fields. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to interact with world-class collaborators in the fields of statistics, biomedical sciences, and RNA biology.

UCLA is one of the preeminent institutions in the world for bioscience research. Our group is affiliated with a cross-campus Computational Biosciences Initiative, the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Institute for Molecular Medicine, the Broad Stem Cell Research Center, and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, providing rich resources and interactions with outstanding research groups on the UCLA campus.

Interested candidates should send a CV and names of three referees to Dr. Yi Xing, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (MIMG), CHS 33-228, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, 90095, or email: [email protected].

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
