    The Senior Manager, reporting to the Director, Clinical Genomics and Translational Technologies, will manage the operations and personnel in the Gene Expression and High-throughput Sequencing laboratory within the Genome Technologies services The Jackson Laboratory for Mammalian Genomics in Bar Harbor, Maine. A primary responsibility is the management of the Genome Technology (GT) team to ensure that the technical quality and throughput of the services are consistent and of a high standard. This position requires a high degree of expertise in the field of high throughput sequencing (HTS) and functional genomic analysis. The Senior Manager is responsible for evaluating new methods and instrumentation for GT service offerings. Position also requires administrative duties such as service reports, grant progress reports, and personnel meetings.





    Responsibilities:

    Manage service quality, customer experience, efficiency, and general lab activity. Provide effective management to technical staff through performance reviews and coaching. Foster communication through individual and group meetings with team members. Assign group resources to processes/projects maximizing throughput and quality. Manage customer relations and ensure second-to-none customer experience. Maintain accurate cost analyses for all service processes. Impact maintenance and implementation of new functionality in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics reports.
    Coordinate development and implementation of new services/instrumentation and improvements to existing processes. Perform/assign/interpret experiments addressing the implementation of new methods and/or instrumentation into the service. Develop/implement process control and QA/QC measures and ensure personnel follow prescribed SOP's and practices.
    Facilitate and/or lead meetings with investigators concerning experimental design and on-going project status. Present pertinent information to varied internal and external audiences at user meetings, conferences, courses, and lab tours.
    Collaborate with Computational Sciences (CS) to coordinate HTS and other functional genomic analysis practices including the investigation and development of tools and methods to assist staff in analysis of data from experiments.
    Coordinating efforts across the Bar Harbor and Connecticut campuses, working closely with the Director of Clinical and Translational Technologies and the Manager of the Clinical Genomics Laboratory, including periodic travel between campuses.

    Required Skills

    Demonstrated knowledge of the application of genomic technologies to genetics and functional genomic research efforts.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by publications and presentations.


    Required Experience

    Masters or PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology or related field with at least two years of experience in laboratory management.
    Demonstrated experience in grant proposal preparation
    Direct experience with the operation of High-throughput Sequencing technologies and an understanding of data analysis.
