  • Looking for advice on european genomics

    Hi All,

I am in the final year of my PhD and starting to get a little worried about what I am going to do next...

I don't think I want to do a postdoc, but I love what I do (developing molecular biology and bioinformatic tools for generating/analysing genome wide transcription/epigenetics/organisation data).

So what I want to know is :
    • Where are the major centres/institutes for genomics in europe?
    • Are there any particular companies I should be looking out for?
    • Any hospitals increasing their genomics facilities?
    • Any institutes creating/increasing their genomics facilities/departments.
    • Any recommended job posting boards?
  • Obviously this one too...

  • I would really appreciate any advice anyone has to offer. Thanks in advance.

One option to consider is the biomedical research park in Barcelona, Catalonia:

I am actually off to Barcelona next month, so I will check it out!

I have also heard Berlin is becoming something of a biotech hub - does anyone know of good companies/institutes to look at?

        Eml

The EML in Heidelberg recently hosted a superb 3rd International Biocuration Conference in Berlin which featured excellent local participation.

Has anyone heard anything about Berlin? I think Pfizer just moved their HQ there, so there might be upcoming opportunities... Any other companies/hospitals/institutes worth a look?

            cambridge

where you live, is europe's largest bio-hub.

Yeah - but I want to get out of here!! I have been here too long and my feet are getting itchy...

                  Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
                  by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

                  Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
                  by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
