  • Bioinformatics Applications Specialist

A position is available for a highly motivated bioinformatics programmer and applications specialist in the Genomics Core of the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, New York University. The Genomics Core provides access to and expertise in next generation sequencing and other genomics technology for faculty in the Department of Biology and at NYU's Washington Square campus.
The successful applicant will be responsible for addressing the bioinformatics needs of the Genomics Core facility. This will include ensuring processing, storage, and delivery of data from next generation sequencing runs (Illumina and Ion Torrent platforms), and responding to the day-to-day bioinformatics requests from researchers. Strong computational abilities to manipulate large datasets are essential as well as a working knowledge and expertise in certain well-known bioinformatics applications. The applicant will be working as part of a team-based effort to support the research and teaching of the Center.
    Applicants should have:
    (1) A detailed knowledge of next generation sequence data analysis.
    (2) An ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
    (3) Good spoken and written English.

Interested parties should email a CV and names of three references to Admin Assistant Carrie Nygard ([email protected]) with CGSB Bioinformatics Position in the subject line. The position is available immediately.
The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology is located in historic Greenwich Village in downtown Manhattan, New York City. NYU is one of the world’s leading research universities and CGSB is housed in a new state-of-the-art facility. The Center’s 16 faculty members study genomics and systems biology across all kingdoms of life, supported by state-of-the-art genomics facilities. Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
