  • 2 Postdoc positions at Sun Yat-Sen University School of life Science, China

Two postdoctoral fellow positions are available at Sun Yat-Sen University School of life Science in the laboratory of Rui Zhang (http://labii.com/groups/view/public/...q/Zhang%20Lab/). We are interested in using genomic approaches coupled with synthetic biology, computational biology and molecular and cell biology to understand the function, regulation and evolution of RNA editing and miRNAs. Experimental ("wet lab") and computational ("dry lab") components are interwined and synergized in the lab. One postdoctoral fellow will be mostly working on the experimental side, and the other computational, although knowledge of both sides is desired.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Genetics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or a related field, and proven track records. S/he should be highly self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills and strong desire to learn. Some knowledge in next generation sequencing and/or computational data analysis is desired, but not essential. We will be providing the job-holder with opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge by excellent training opportunities in the fields of RNA biology, next generation sequencing, and big data mining.

Sun Yat-Sen University is consistently ranked among the top 10 universities in China. School of life Sciences is a leading institution in RNA biology and Genomics fields in China. Salary on appointment will be within the range 120,000 to 160,000 RMB per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Sun Yat-Sen University will offer affordable housing for postdoctoral scholars.

Applicants should submit their CV and arrange three references to Dr. Rui Zhang ([email protected]) with email subject “Postdoctoral application”.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
