  • PE Sequencing or wait 1 year for costs do go down?

    Hi,

we are planning our new sequencing experiment and are arguing about single end reads against paired end reads.

If we sequence 100bp PE reads instead of 100bp SE reads it would cost ~70% more. So our/my main question is:

Do you thing it's worth it to sequence PE reads, ie. is the gain in information worth the extra money?

As we have limited human resources, I think analyzing the data will last at least a year. Do you think by then it is cheaper to sequence it with PE reads again as the cost are going down, ie. could we get it done for the same prize = the 70% we are would now pay extra?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!!

    All the best!

It would help to know what your experiment/application was in order to ascertain whether you would gain information with a PE approach..

If you really plan to wait a year you're almost guaranteed the price will drop at least close to 70% and possibly more. What type of project is this?

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
        by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
