    Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

Cancer Center Genomics Scientific Projects Liaison

Outstanding applicants are sought for a position to direct the Next Generation Sequencing Core Facility at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a world-renowned research and educational institution with innovative research programs in cancer, neuroscience, plant biology and genomics and bioinformatics. The Next Generation Sequencing Core at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory currently has 16 state-of-art next generation sequencing instruments supported by an experienced technical staff and a bioinformatics group for development of novel algorithms for data analysis, sequence comparison and pipeline management.
    Description of the Position:
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the core facility, including work scheduling, supervision of staff, service and maintenance of the equipment and training programs. She/He will be the first point of contact for prospective users of the facility and will interact closely with other CSHL scientists to assess each user's research needs, suggest effective experimental approaches and recommend protocols as necessary to obtain the data needed. She/he may be involved in the development of protocols, consultation on experimental design, analysis and interpretation and educating new users in applications of the next generation sequencing technology.
The applicant will be responsible for the following tasks: 1) Facilitate communication between team members to ensure consistent workflow and high-quality sequencing data, and to maximize the effective use of project resources; 2) Coordinate maintenance and improvement of laboratory automation, sequencing request tracking and data delivery system (LIMS); 3) Work in conjunction with research scientists and IT support to implement and support laboratory-based standard operating procedures for new and existing next-generation sequencing platforms; 4) Ensure consistent workflow and high quality data in conjunction with research scientist and IT support.

    Requirements:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology or a related biological field with an emphasis in sequencing or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in collaborative research projects and inter-group communication would be beneficial.
The ideal candidate will have experience in supervisory and management role, excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills and the ability to work in a multi-tasking environment, to cooperate and communicate effectively with team members and other research groups.

Experience in operating next-generation sequencing platforms is desirable but not required. Working knowledge of PC and UNIX platforms; experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems and database programs to track samples and communicate results is essential.

    To apply:
Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae, a brief description of research interests and career goals, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to W. Richard McCombie, PhD at [email protected].
