    Vacancy Ref 3014548

If you have any questions, please e-mail me [email protected]

    Details

ARK-Genomics is a thriving international genomics facility based at The Roslin Institute, employing the latest next-generation sequencing, SNP genotyping and microarray technologies. We have a vacancy in our bioinformatics group to undertake work as part of a recently awarded technology strategy board grant.

The role of the job-holder will be to develop bioinformatics pipelines for the integration and analysis of next-generation sequencing data sets from genome sequencing and RNA-Seq experiments, and to collaborate with an industrial partner to interpret the findings in the context of a recent Technology Strategy Board grant awarded to investigate the effect of gene insertion events on the industrial performance of a microbial species.

A strong track record in the integration and analysis of next-generation sequencing data is essential, as is knowledge of biological systems

The successful candidate will have relevant research experience in bioinformatics, and will be expected to have a PhD or equivalent experience. The ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing will also be expected.

The successful candidate will join a thriving international genomics facility based at The Roslin Institute, and will enjoy interactions with a dynamic team of both wet and dry scientists.

This post if fixed term for 2 years.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
