samilar gene ID in counts file

Hi,
Right now I came across such a question:
When I did DE analysis using RNA-seq counts data, I found two similar gene IDs like (PR and PGR) in two different rows with diffenent numbers of counts.
So how can I tell which gene is the official gene name?

then if I cannot find the specific gene in the webseit, does it mean that gene ID might not be official name, or even a typo?

Without knowing the full context of your question .. if it is a human gene and you can't find it on this site then it is not an official name (or it may still be under consideration for approval).

Well, I got some answers for this 2 gene ID names.
"The files list three transcript names for each of these proteins.
PGR = AB084248,AY212933,NM_000926
PR = AB085683,AB085843,AB085845“

it seems they are alternative splicing variants. Is it possible? What does this mean?
