Research Specialist in Life Sciences

Proposed Starting Date: As soon as possible after closing
Qualifications: B.S. degree, M.S. preferred, in Biology, Cell and Structural Biology, Molecular Biology or related field. Demonstrated expertise in genomics and use of computers in applications of bioinformatics is preferred. This position also requires excellent communication skills, understanding of computer hardware and software, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Responsibilities: The University of Illinois Carver Biotechnology Center is a core user facility and this position is associated specifically with the bioinformatics unit. Major responsibilities are to monitor and process DNA sequencing data from either Sanger or “next generation” sequencing platforms. This will involve the use of various software tools and in-house scripts. Analysis will include assembly, annotation, and marker prediction of both genomic and transcriptome sequence data.
Type of Position: Full-time Academic Professional. Salary is commensurate with experience.
