The Department of Clinical Genetics, OUH is searching for an academic with knowledge of bioinformatics. The position is limited for a period of 2 years with possibility for conversion to a tenure track position.
At the Department of Clinical Genetics we perform classic medical genetics in terms of genetic counselling, DNA and cytogenetic analyses. In the out patient department we have app. 1500 patients per year with a broad spectrum of genetic diseases. In the laboratory we handle app. 2200 samples per year pre- and postnatal.
We have a well established research unit connected to Institute of Clinical Research under Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark.
We are currently 60 persons connected to the department either through employment at the hospital or at the university.
The department has recently received Instruments for next generation sequencing, NGS (Illumina HiSeq1000 and a MiSeq).
The NGS platform is intended for use in clinical diagnostic and for research projects. We expect to use the technology for focused, exome and genome sequencing and for RNA analysis.
You will be a part of the diagnostic laboratory and join the existent group connected to NGS.
Your field of working will be:
-Testing and implementation of strategies for analysis of the massive amount of data created
-Testing commercial and free software for data analysis
-To optimize, develop and maintain methods for optimal mutation detection in case the available software isn’t sufficient for diagnostics as well as for research use
-To perform the data analysis
-To teach and supervise lab technicians in data analysis on mainly diagnostic samples
-To teach and supervise academic colleagues in data analysis for diagnostic and research
-To be jointly responsible for maintaining the quality and accreditation of NGS for diagnostic use
-To be involved in research projects in terms of guidance of design of projects concerning data analysis and partly in performing the data analysis. The research projects will be anchored internal and external of the department. The projects will cover a wide spectrum of disease, hereditary as well as acquired
-To establish a research area in your own field of work
