  • tassel 5 for GBS data

    Hi, everyone,

I just started using tassel for GBS data. I downloaded tassel 5 on my PC (4 core Intel i7 destop with 8GB of RAM running Windows 7), but every time I tried to load some GBS data, such as topm file, there is hardly any response of tassel. My data can be loaded, but by clicking any data, it would say "tassel has experienced an error". I am thinking this is because of my computer's computation power, but anyone here has encountered the similar problem before? Is it possible to run any analysis on tassel with this limited computation power?

    Thanks!

The published TASSEL needed 8-16GB to run the core functions. It may have increased with newer versions. Have you tried the test data? Is your Java up to date?

I have the most up-to-date Java 8, and tassel works well with test data. So I am wondering it may because my data size is too large. I have four raw fastq data zipped file, with each takes up over 10 GB. I was told to increase heap, I will try that option.

Just wondering if you had any success after increasing the heap size?

Tassels runs well after you increase the heap size, but make sure you have administrator authority on your computer to set up the environment to run tassel.

            Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
            by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
