  • Sonicating water bath for Ion Torrent

Our PGM was delivered last week, but it turns out that we need a lot of accessory equipment before they will come and set it up and do the training.

One last thing that I am looking for is a sonicating water bath, 2-3L tank, 80-160W, 40kHz. Anyone have recommendations?

We have validated two sonicating baths at Ion:

    1) Branson Model 1510 (P/N 952-118)
    http://www.bransonic.com/model_1510.asp

    2) Fisher Scientific Mechanical Ultrasonic Cleaners (P/N 15-335-20)
    http://www.fishersci.com/ecomm/servl...0652&langId=-1

Generally, any model that has a 2-3L capacity and is 80-160W rated with a 40 kHz transducer should be sufficient.

I also encourage you to contact your local Field Applications Scientist, should you have any other questions about readying your site for PGM installation.

We bought the cheapest smallest (1.6L) one we could find. It is only to get an even dispersal of the Ion Sphere Particles before loading.

This is an Australian made brand. We got the 80TD model.

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
