Variant Effect Predictor API, dbSNP annotation

Quick question for those running VEP using local API, does it annotate dbSNP rs numbers or do you need to do that prior to running VEP (with something like SnpSift)?

EDIT: never mind, completely missed the **--check_existing flag, pretty sure this is what I was after.
