Supporting the Ion Torrent R&D team, the candidate will be responsible for multiple aspects of Linux system administration, remote monitoring and access, Linux scripting, database management, scalable file storage and archival (terabytes), and software installation. The ideal candidate for this position will have the vision to design and maintain systems that can scale with customer needs and growth, and empower the end-users to maintain those systems with minimal support.
Essential skills and background include:
Must have Linux operating system skills.
Knowledge and experience in supporting scientific computing.
Ubuntu server 9.04, 9.10, CentOS 5.
Server builds, OS installation, hardware maintenance, patch updates, hardware and software troubleshooting, remote configuration and management.
Familiarity with large scale file storage solutions, file archives, database backups, high performance distributed file systems and FTP.
Automation of Linux server configuration and software installation.
Setup and automation of database backups, email alert notifications, archives.
Experience with compute clusters and Distributed Resource Management systems such as Sun Grid Engine.
Provide administration support for vendors with installing and upgrading scientific software.
Apache configuration, perl or python scripting a plus.
Experience with open source monitoring and management tools (Ganglia, Nagios, SWATCH, etc), gcc compiling of open source tools a plus.
The position would be ideally based at our Guilford, CT offices, but an excellent candidate could be based in our San Francisco, CA offices.
