Default PhD position long noncoding RNA

Within a project funded by the German Research Council (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG), we are looking for a motivated PhD student, who is interested in the identification and characterization of the role of long-noncoding RNA (lncRNA) for regulation of energy metabolism in cattle.
Within the project a comprehensive catalogue of bovine lncRNA will be established. From this catalogue, candidates functionally relevant for the regulation of metabolic efficiency will be identified and further characterized regarding their molecular targets. The project benefits from existing data and samples originating from a unique long-term experiment and will also analyze new comprehensive metabolomic and RNAseq-based transcriptomic data. The work is embedded in the global consortium for the Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes (FAANG) with our focus on lncRNAs. The project will take advantage of a genuine confirmed animal model, excellent comprehensive laboratory equipment including high-throughput technology (Next generation sequencing, SNP chip technology, local and network server) and a hospitable, friendly team.
