The ability to execute a project in microbial ecology from sampling to sequence analysis is required and should be supported by experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with multiple sequencing platforms, sampling from skin surfaces, and the ability to perform limited programming in support of data analysis. Experience with fungi, the viral microbiome and skin physiology a plus. The candidate must be able to interact well with peers, including extramural partners and fellow research staff. This position is currently funded from a two year grant, but there are

"The Department of Wound Infections at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research is looking for an energetic data scientist with experience with whole genomes and possibly epidemiology to engage in the analysis of clinically relevant and emerging multi-drug resistant bacteria from across America, Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Software development skills required. The ideal candidate will have the experience to interface with the IT department in establishing local resources and the Army Research Labs in accessing high performance computing, will be able to interface with extramural partners around the world as a peer, and will have enough biology laboratory experience to interface with both the local laboratory staff in discussions of specimen handling and contract laboratory staff regarding sequencing, verification and assembly. This position is currently funded from a two year grant, but there are close ties to an enduring capability, opportunities for promotion, and opportunities to submit grant applications to the DoD intramural research programs.
