  • NGS library prep facility in Cambridge UK is looking for a Research Assistant

We are seeking a molecular biologist with proven skills in RNA/DNA manipulation and a working knowledge of DNA sequencing technologies.

The applicant will support and work closely together with the facility manager. Routine tasks would include: quality control of incoming samples, quantifying RNA and DNA samples, library construction for a number of different NGS library protocols, handling processes on Covaris, Bioanalyzer and qPCR machines, troubleshooting and correction of suboptimal results, submitting samples to sequencing.

    Requirements:

A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline, such as molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or similar.

Superior laboratory skills in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related areas, preferably with experience in NGS library preparation.

Solid knowledge and hands-on experience with molecular biological methods such as DNA and RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, enzymatic manipulation of DNA and RNA, PCR, qPCR.

A working knowledge of NGS technology is required.

Ability to quickly learn and independently apply new techniques after induction.

Capable of managing a diverse workload.

Must be able to keep accurate records to ensure successful teamwork.

A high level of attention to detail is crucial to this post.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
