  • Next Generation Sequencing Analyst, Marshall University, Huntington, WV USA

The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University and WV- INBRE Program are seeking candidates for a full-time non-tenure-track position of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Analyst in the Genomics Core Facility. Applicants must have a M.S. or equivalent degree with a background in bioinformatics or genomics. Although all well-qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to individuals with experience in the analysis of NGS data sets and with strong computer programming skills. Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information in a multidisciplinary team, are required. The successful candidate will be expected to advise Genomics Core clients in the design of NGS projects, analyze NGS data sets, and assist in the development of data analysis pipelines. The Genomics Core is equipped with a HiSeq1500, cBot, Covaris, BioAnalyzers, and real time thermal cyclers. Application packets should include curriculum vitae, a listing of master’s level course work, a summary of past experience, and a list of three references with telephone numbers, postal and email addresses. All applications materials should be emailed as a single pdf (referencing Search #MURC727) to [email protected]. Review of applications will begin on March 1 2014. Marshall University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and has an affirmative duty to reasonably accommodate otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
