  • OrthoFinder: accurate gene families made easy!

    Hi All,

I just wanted to post a shameless plug for our new gene family (orthogroup) finding software called OrthoFinder that has just come out in GenomeBiology.

If you looking to cluster protein coding genes from your newly sequenced genomes, or looking to do some comparative analysis of gene families in multiple species then please check it out and shout if you encounter any problems!

Phylogenetic orthology inference for comparative genomics - davidemms/OrthoFinder

Faster, more options, added flexibility. Making gene families (orthogroups) from whole genomes with just one command just got even easier.

      How the SpeciesTreeAlignment

      Dear all

Please , how the SpeciesTreeAlignment.fa is generated in orthofinder? this file is located inside the Alignement directory it contains the alignment for different orthogroups. I want to know if this was generated with the concatenation of the core orthgroups or with all the Orthogroups. Or any additional explanations. are welcome.

Thanks in advance for your help

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
