  • R installating packages through ssh

    Dear all,

the following is not really a *seq-question, but if someone had an answer, this would be most appreciated.

I need to install R on a Mac, to which I only have access by ssh.

    So I did the following:
    sudo curl http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx...nowleopard.pkg > R-3.2.1-snowleopard.pkg
sudo installer -pkg R-3.2.1-snowleopard.pkg -target myDisk

    (myDisk is a placeholder)

Basic R functions work. E.g. this
    > x=c(1:100)
    > summary(x)
Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max.
    1.00 25.75 50.50 50.50 75.25 100.00

But now I want to install add-on packages. So I try
    > install.packages("hash")
--- Please select a CRAN mirror for use in this session ---

upon which I get the error message

"2016-04-17 13:00:02.355 X11[16550:8804654] Failed to connect (primary_text_field_cell) outlet from (AppDelegate) to (NSTextFieldCell): missing setter or instance variable" when R dies.

I assume it tries to use X11 and can't ...

Can anyone tell me how to circumvent this ? E.g. can I force it to give me the list of CRAN mirrors within the terminal ?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

My question is similar to a question previously posted but never really answered here: Disable GUI, graphics devices in R I do not like the R tcltk popups for CRAN mirror selection. They also pop...

    tl/dr:
    options(menu.graphics=FALSE)

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
