  • Research Associate (Bioinformatics /Next Generation Sequencing)

The MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics & Genomics at Cardiff University School of Medicine seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful applicant will work as the lead postdoctoral researcher on a project funded by the Medical Research Council (U.K.), and will be responsible for the analysis of RNA-Seq and genotype data that have been generated. The main aims of the project are to characterize RNA transcripts in the developing human brain and to assess effects of genetic risk variants for neuropsychiatric disorders on their expression. Ultra deep whole transcriptome sequencing and genome-wide genotyping of a unique collection of human brain samples has already been performed for this purpose. The successful applicant will have expertise in RNA-Seq analyses and handling of large datasets.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and is fixed term for 24 months.

    Salary: £31,342 - £37,394 per annum (Grade 6).

To apply, please visit the Cardiff University Job Opportunities website at http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/jobs/ and search for job reference 3884BR.

Informal enquires should be addressed to Dr Nick Bray ([email protected]).

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
