  • NCBI SRA & TSA submission tutorial

We have just published a very detailed guide to submitting RNA-Seq reads to NCBI's SRA, and transcriptome assemblies to TSA. We have often felt the need for a detailed, all-in-one-place, presentation of the steps required to submit RNA-Seq reads and assemblies to NCBI, so we decided to create one! Having often searched SEQanswers for help on this and similar topics, we would like to share with the community.

    1) The manuscript: Feindt, W., Oppenheim, S. J., DeSalle, R., & Mehr, S. (2018). Good citizenship made easy: A step-by-step guide to submitting RNA-Seq data to NCBI. Current Protocols in Bioinformatics, e67. doi: 10.1002/cpbi.67 (if you don't have access, please visit https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Wiebke_Feindt to request full text from the authors)

    2) The companion website: http://desalle.amnh.org/good_citizenship_rna/

We hope it is of use!

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
