    Title: Bioinformatics Engineer
    Organization: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
    Department: Computational Biology
    Location: New York, NY, USA
    Start Date: ASAP
    Duration: Full Time

    Description:
The Bioinformatics Core (BIC) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City (Manhattan) is seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer to perform next generation sequence data processing and analysis in a dynamic and exciting academic environment at the nexus of cancer biology, computer science, statistics and clinical research. Work will be performed in a small group atmosphere (approx. 15 members from diverse disciplines) with several active collaborators, and in concert with other Bioinformatics and Software Engineers.

    Responsibilities:
Design, develop and operate computational pipelines for the analysis of next generation sequencing data. Work will include both large-scale projects and small custom jobs, and span a wide variety of analysis problems.

BIC facilitates scientific discoveries by supporting basic and clinical research groups. BIC is responsible for building training programs, research project support, web-based tools, a high performance computing facility and database integration of genomic, pathway and clinical information. More information about the Bioinformatics Core is available at http://cbio.mskcc.org/bic.

MSKCC is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.

    Qualifications:
    - Master’s degree, or equivalent, in computer science, bioinformatics, mathematics or a related field, and 2 years of Bioinformatics software development required

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
