  • Bio-Rad/QuantaLife Bioinformatics Career Opportunities

    Bio-Rad has two exciting opportunities:

    1. Staff Scientist (Bioinformatics)

You will work on sequence analysis and assay design for new applications enabled by the microdroplet generation technology developed by QuantaLife, now part of Bio-Rad. You will be responsible for the deployment and use of bioinformatics analysis pipelines for next-gen sequencing, primer and probe design, analysis and interpretation of results. This is an opportunity to help develop and commercialize a new technology that brings closer the promise of digital life sciences.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
-Work in a cross-functional group of bioinformaticians, software and hardware engineers, and molecular biologists, developing state-of-the-art genome analysis systems
-Research, deploy and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for next gen sequence analysis
-Contribute to existing computational infrastructure for assay design in both algorithm development and efficient implementation
-Analyze data from NGS instruments to characterize performance of various assays and library preparation methods congruent with Quantalife technologies
-Help define and execute novel approaches to sample prep in large number of partitions for novel applications in genomics
-Provide methods, prototypes and code for implementation in internal tools and end-user applications
-Participate in cross-site projects and academic collaborations
-Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or similar. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
-Must have prior experience analyzing large NGS datasets, including re-sequencing, assembly, variant calling, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq
-Experience with other genomics data and applications is a significant plus
-Proficiency with standard bioinformatics and statistics tools, resources and packages (Blast, Bioconductor, genome browsers, HapMap, 1000 genomes, R, Matlab, or similar)
-Proficiency and programming/scripting experience with some of Python, Perl, C++, Java is required. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain pipelines in HPC environments
-Experience developing algorithms for sequence analysis in complex genomics applications
-Superior communication skills in highly diverse cross-discipline environment
-Dynamic personality striving to achieve results and enjoying constant technical challenges
-Vision for new opportunities in the growing field of digital life sciences

    2. Senior Scientist (Data Analysis)

The Senior Scientist, Data Analysis will play a key role in the development, validation and commercialization of novel assays and applications for the droplet-digital PCR (ddPCR) platform developed by Quantalife/Bio-Rad. The successful candidate will analyze very large ddPCR datasets to advance novel applications and will build and validate models of fundamental biological processes, their detection and digital quantification. You will work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment where productive interactions between molecular biology, chemistry, hardware and software engineering and analysis are essential. This is an opportunity to help develop and commercialize a new technology that brings closer the promise of digital life sciences.

    Responsibilities:
    - Analyze ddPCR datasets with the goal of advancing new assay and applications development, validate existing approaches and characterize system performance. Current applications include quantitation, CNV, mutation detection, digital gene expression and others.
    - Develop analysis techniques, tools and models to explain experimental results and suggest follow up experiments.
    - Develop and extend an automation framework for processing and visualization of large datasets and results.
    - Provide third level analysis support and troubleshooting to customers and other groups in the organization.
    - Participate in collaboration projects with third parties.
    - Provide methods and consulting services to application scientists for robust data analysis and interpretation.

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    - Previous experience with analysis of large datasets in life sciences, including qPCR, sequencing or microarray platforms.
    - Understanding of fundamental statistical techniques like hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, design of experiments, Bayesian statistics.
    - Expert knowledge of high-level tools and languages for scripting, computing and visualization like Python, R, Matlab or similar.
    - Significant experience with handling and maintenance of large datasets and understanding of complex experimental relationships and their visualization.
    - Good background in genomics and fundamentals of molecular biology.
    - Hunger to solve complex problems requiring extensive multi-disciplinary interactions and collaborations.
    - Enthusiasm for working in a fast moving collaborative environment.

    Required Education and Experience:
    - PhD in Bioinformatics, Biology, Statistics or related discipline.
    - At least two years of relevant experience.

    Optional Additional Qualifications:
    - Experience with similar complex life sciences systems and molecular biology applications.
    - Experience with next gen sequencing data and bioinformatics solutions is highly desirable.
    - Deeper expertise in statistics.
    - Five years or more of relevant experience.
