  • PLINK in Ubuntu 14.04

    Newbie to Bioinformatics here...

Has anyone else configured PLINK to run in Ubuntu 14.04? I'm getting the following error and I can't seem to figure out how to correct it:

    Output file root: Invalid fileroot

    Thanks in advance!

Are you trying to write to a location where you do not have write permissions or not using a unique output name? Example below is from gPLINK.

      Thank you for your response.

I referenced that link and spent hours trying to troubleshoot the issue before starting this thread.

Unfortunately, they don't tell you how to correct the error. For example, in their example where it reads valid file root, mine reads invalid file root.

I have access as systems admin and I've also tried creating a new directory/giving the file a new name but I still get the same error.

I guess I wasn't using a unique enough name afterall!

To Ubuntu users of plink for GWAS, the executable is renamed p-link due to a name clash.

            Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
            by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

            Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
            by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
