  • Paired end in Ion Torrent

    Hi you all!

I need your help... I'm trying to search for a translocation using ion torrent sequencing (i know the genes involved in the translocation, but not the exact point of the break of the chromosomes).
The bioinformatitian that is going to help me with the analysis told me it would be better to perform a paired end sequencing, but I'm not sure if I can do it with ion torrent.
Someone told me that ion torrent performs mate pair, not paired end, but I don't understand de difference.
What's the difference between paired end and mate pair? Can I do it with ion torrent?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and respond

Ion torrent can do paired-end sequencing. Mate-pair (for clarity, I call it "long-mate pair", or LMP) is a specific type of paired-end sequencing designed for very long insert sizes, and is relevant to assembly, not what you are doing.

Thank you very much for your response, Brian.
People from life technologies told us that they do not commercialize the kits to perform paired end seq in ion torrent any more. They just have the one for mate-pair seq.
      Should I use that kit?

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
