Default Postdoc in bioinformatics with focus on non-coding RNA - Lund University, Sweden

Post-doctoral fellowship in bioinformatics with focus on non-coding RNA

The Canceromics Branch of the Department of Oncology at Lund University in Sweden focuses on the application of genome-wide techniques on cancer research. Located in southern Sweden in the Medicon Valley region and with more than thirty researchers, it offers a stimulating, multidisciplinary and internationally competitive research environment within the fields of breast cancer genomics, bioinformatics, molecular genetics and cell biology.

The Non-coding RNA Unit invites now applications for a postdoctoral fellowship within the field of non-coding RNA bioinformatics to be filled under 2011. The successful applicant will be working on the computational/statistical analysis of large-scale next-generation sequencing data sets (Illumina) to characterize long as well as short non-coding RNA expression in breast tumour samples. The work will be performed in close collaboration with the members of the group in the wet-lab and with other groups within the Branch.

Applicants must hold a PhD in bioinformatics or equivalent. Good knowledge of statistics and good command in English is an absolute requirement. Previous experience with analysis of next-generation sequencing data would be an advantage.

The duration of the position will be 2 years.

Please, include in the application a curriculum vitae with information on education, previous employment and list of publications together with a motivation and two letters of references to be sent separately.

Founded in 1666, Lund University is today one of the largest, oldest and broadest universities in Scandinavia and is consistently ranked among the world's top 100 universities. Lund University has an excellent academic reputation with a large number of visiting professors and international students.

With eight faculties, the University’s activities cover education and research in engineering, science, law, social sciences, economics, medicine, humanities, theology, fine arts, music and drama.

Around 46 000 students study at the University, which has some 6 000 employees. The majority of the University's activities are in Lund, but a number of education and research departments are based in Malmö. The University also has a growing campus in Helsingborg and a School of Aviation in Ljungbyhed.

The University has some 30 world-leading research environments. This, together with increased direct funding from the Swedish Government, allocated on the basis of competition and quality, makes Lund University Sweden’s strongest research university.

Lund University is in many respects Sweden’s most international higher education institution and has close cooperation and exchange agreements with a large number of universities around the world. In addition, Lund University is a member of the prestigious research-intensive university networks Universitas 21 and the League of European Research Universities (LERU).

The University is an important force in the expansive Öresund region, not least since two of Europe’s largest research facilities, Max IV and ESS, will be built in Lund within the next ten years.
