  • Hi y'all (greetings from Atlanta)

A shoutout to the SEQanswers community from the south! My name is Tim Read, a newly minted Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases & Human Genetics at Emory University. I'm going to be running a new Genomics Core at Emory, based initially on the 454 GS-FLX and Illumina platforms, and continuing on my research on comparative bacterial pathogen genomics (previously I was an researcher at TIGR and then the Naval Medical Research Center in Rockville, Maryland).

I'm on the lookout to recruit a couple of positions initially and will post the official descriptions shortly. These are: a lab tech/ lab manager experienced in running nextgen instruments, and a Bioinformatics analyst with experience in genome data analysis. Send me an email if you are interested or come and find me at AGBT.

    all the best
    Tim

(BTW - I'm British so I don't actually talk Southern on a full time basis )

    Hey Tim,

Welcome, good to have you! I'm trying to hear "ya'all" in a British accent.

      Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
      by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

      Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
      by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
