*Integrative Biology are joint programs by FAU’s College of Medicine, Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, and Scripps Research Institute Florida. All three are located on FAU campuses (Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience is part of the prestigious Max Planck Society, Germany’s most successful research organization. Since its establishment in 1948, 17 Nobel laureates have emerged from it, putting it on a par with the best and most prestigious research institutions worldwide. Scripps Research Institute includes an outstanding cadre of colleagues, including two Nobel Laureates and 20 Members of The National Academy of Sciences).

Admission requirements: TOEFL≥80, IELTS 6.0, or Duolingo 100. GRE waived due to COVID.
Suggested submission dues: Dec 11 for IBBS; Jan 15/Feb 15/July 15 for CS/Data Science; Dec 1 for NGP.

    Competitive full scholarship (tuition/fees/insurance/stipend)
    • GRA (competitive!)
    • GTA
    • NSF Predoctoral Fellowship: FAU has $2.4 million National Science Foundation fund to train graduate students in Data Science, particularly bioinformatics and genomics. 45 trainees will be selected/funded.
    • Other Predoctoral Fellowships

    Brand-new Genomics and Bioinformatics Laboratory
New computational lab space/offices will be provided on beautiful ocean-side campus.

    University Investment
FAU is one of the best ‘total-package colleges’ in America; and on its trajectory being a top 100 public university. FAU and the dean of FAU College of Medicine (who is the former associate dean of Harvard Medical School) has committed to fully support genomics and bioinformatics research and training. FAU’s annual economic impact is $6.3 billion. FAU’s research park is home to 19 companies. FAU also leads the State University System for applied artificial intelligence and big data analytics. FAU ranks No. 3 in Florida State Universities based on 2021 State University System performance-based funding rankings.

FAU is located in Boca Raton, a fastest growing city internationally known as a dynamic, affluent, and high-tech industrial center. Boca Raton is one of the best cities to live in the U.S. It is among the safest communities in the US with virtually no crime. FAU is minutes away from the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and beaches with a sunny climate throughout most of the year.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
