  • Marshall University Next Generation Sequencing Manager Position

Marshall University Next Generation Sequencing Manager

The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University and WV-INBRE Program are seeking candidates for a full-time non-tenure-track position of Next Generation Sequencing Manager in the Genomics Core Facility. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D., or equivalent degree with a background in genetics or molecular biology. Although all well-qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to individuals with experience in the operation of Illumina sequencers, in construction of sequencing libraries, and management and analysis of NGS data sets. The successful candidate will be expected to operate the next generation sequencer, advise Genomics Core clients in the design of NGS projects, collaborate with clients in publication of NGS findings and develop and execute protocols for library preparation and high throughput sequencing. The Genomics Core is equipped with a HiSeq1500, cBot, Covaris, microarray station, and real time thermal cyclers. Application packets should include curriculum vitae, representative reprints, a summary of past experience, a short statement regarding research interests, and a list of three references with telephone numbers, postal and email addresses. All applications materials should be emailed as a single pdf (referencing Search #MURC695) to [email protected]. Review of applications will begin on September 15 2013. Marshall University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and has an affirmative duty to reasonably accommodate otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
