  • PostDoc Department of Human Genetics Hannover Medical School

    The Hannover Medical School, Department of Human Genetics (Team of Prof. Dr. rer. nat.Thomas Illig) is seeking applications for
    Postdoctoral Research Positions
    In our research project, we are interested in the integration and analysis of big biological data sets of malignant childhood cancers using own experimental data sets as well as data of accessible public databases. The postdoc who is supporting our team of experimentalists, clinicians and bioinformaticians will help to investigate the epigenomic mechanisms of genome dysregulation in childhood cancer. This includes, but is not limited to, the identification of functionally relevant differentially methylated regions, identification of differentially expressed genes and the integration of our research data with other publicly available resources. Moreover, application and integration of in silico tools to predict pathogenicity of identified genetic variants and their molecular modelling will complement the experimental work of our team.
    Your profile:
    - University Degree (PhD in (Bio-)Informatics,(Bio-)Statistics, (Bio-)Mathematics, (Bio-), Physics, Biology, Chemistry or a related discipline).
    - Strong background in molecular biology, commitment and work ethic
    - Experience in NGS data analysis
    - Programming skills necessary (e.g. C, C++, Python, Perl, R)
    - Very good written and oral English, some German skills welcomed
    We offer:
    - A dynamic and multi-disciplinary research group and campus with productive collaborations and many opportunities to further develop professional skills
    - Working contract according to Collective Agreement for Federal States (TV-L), initially limited to 2 years, with possibility of extension
    - Compensation according to pay group E13 depending on qualification and experience; attractive occupational pension
    - Flexible working time, a family-friendly working environment and top-notch facilities and experimental support
    Employer:
    The Department of Human Genetics at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) is one of the top-performing institutes in genetic counselling and genetic diagnostics in Germany, with one of its main focuses on tumour genetics. The institute is nationally leading in tumour genetic diagnostics of leukaemia and the only reference laboratory for GPOH studies on childhood ALL, AML, CML and for the EWOG-MDS study group. Research projects of the institute are integrated in national and international consortia and focus primarily on hereditary cancers as well as mechanisms of leukaemogenesis.

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

    Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
