  • Bioinformatics Engineer at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

    The Division of Molecular & Genomic Pathology at UPMC Presbyterian is seeking a full-time bioinformatics engineer to support next-generation sequencing for clinical testing. This position will assist in building and maintaining robust clinical systems for the processing of large-scale genomics data. Proficiency with Linux/Unix environments with some system administration experience is critical. Some software development experience would be preferred. Basic knowledge of molecular biology and genomics is preferred but not required. Examples of duties for which this position will be responsible include:
    • User interface development – improve existing and create new user interfaces in Python/Django-based web applications, identify process improvements
    • Improve and manage software testing and error handling for Python/Django-based web applications
    • Assist in software deployment and improving deployment plans
    • Data storage administration – design and implement automated backup solutions, monitor performance and free disk space, setup and optimize drive mounts for transferring large amounts of data
    • Troubleshoot NGS server hardware and software issues e.g. diagnose hardware failures and coordinate with lab technologists and service personnel to resolve them, troubleshoot firewall and network configuration issues


    Technical requirements
    Required:
    • Linux/Unix proficiency
    • Python scripting experience (application development preferred)
    • HTML/CSS and basic web development skills


    Preferred:
    • Django
    • SQL
    • Javascript, JQuery
    • NGS data analysis experience
    • Shell scripting
    • Docker, containers, or virtualization experience
