  • High GC rich genomic DNA

    Hi Folks,

I need to order some higher GC content genomic DNA. Any suggestions from where to buy?

I found out Streptomyces could be one possibility.

    Thanks!

What purpose do you need it for?

Streptomyces are easy to order from ATCC or other culture collections (they're also fun to isolate from soil, but you would need to confirm identity before proceeding). I don't know if you can actually buy the DNA; you will probably need to grow that up yourself.

Micrococcus luteus is a distantly related high G+C bacterium that is often used in undergraduate laboratory exercises. DNA available from Sigma.

If you really want to test a method on high G+C, these are better choices than some of the common used bugs for this such as Bordetella or Rhodobacter, as they are just not as extreme as Streptomyces or Micrococcus.

      Thanks Krobison,

For now I'll order Micrococcus from Sigma. I need to test a high G-C content DNA for library preparation. Hope this one will fulfill it.

Bordetella or Rhodobacter, from where can I buy these? Are these easier to work on than Micrococcus?

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
