  • LIMS for Genomics Core?

    Hi All,

We are looking for a commercial LIMS for a recently combined microarray, Sanger-Seq and NGS Academic Core facility. We have been through the build-vs-buy and prefer a commercial provider.

We have looked at Genologics, Geospiza, and Sapio Sciences. If there are any users out there of these (or other) LIMS systems, we would greatly appreciate any feedback you would share.

    Thank you!

We have used Geospiza for many years in our Sanger facility and it worked great.

We built our own next-gen LIMs in 2007 as there was little choice to do otherwise. We have not switched over yet but continue to look at this space. There is a nice post on the galaxy LIMs which I'd recommend you take a look at.

Next generation sequencing technologies like Illumina, SOLiD and 454 have provided core facilities with the ability to produce large amounts of sequence data. Along with this increased output comes…

      Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
      by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

      Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
      by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
