Default are there genes in transcriptum data?

Hi everyone,
Am going to analyze transcriptum data after the assembling a cDNA reads, my question is
whether I've got to look for genes and ORF's in my data as am going to look for proteins?

am wondering because the DNA already transcribed to RNA hence translated into proteins,
how could this happen?

thanks for advise
