  • Who the heck runs this place?

So I've started this forum based on a user suggestion as a place for people to introduce themselves and start to get to know other users....I'll go first!

My name is Eric, I founded this site. My formal introduction is here... http://seqanswers.com/index.php?pageid=about

...my main areas of scientific interest are genotype-phenotype relationships in humans, whether that be complex diseases or simple traits. I did my graduate work on chromosome engineering using phage integrases/recombinases, which still holds a lot of my interest.

I also like to think of myself as a budding bioinformaticist, I have made a fairly serious solo effort to teach myself perl/php/mysql and find it extremely useful in my day to day work for manipulating and analyzing data.

I'm currently working in an industrial environment (not at any next-gen related company) in southern California. I have collaborations that are utilizing next gen sequencing and I am excited to begin working directly with the data.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
