  • First public HiSeq X Ten data set - free to download!

AllSeq has partnered with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and DNAnexus to offer the genomics community free access to the first publicly available test data sets generated using Illumina’s HiSeq X Ten sequencing platform.

The data set consists of two human whole genomes (NA12878D and NA12878J), allowing for assessment of the reproducibility of the technology.

Each human genome was sequenced on a single lane of an Illumina HiSeq X patterned flow cell, achieving over 120Gb of yield, with > 87% bases with quality > Q30. The data set is both freely viewable and downloadable at http://allseq.com/x-ten-test-data.

Have a look and tell us what you think!

Is this a PCR-free run? If not, are there any PCR-free HiSeq X data?

    Thanks

There is a set of PCR-free data in BaseSpace.

No, this one isn't PCR-free. But as was pointed out above, Illumina finally added their own datasets (including PCR-free) to Basespace.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
          by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

          Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
          by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
