  • PhD position in Plant Systems Biology and Epigenomics at Purdue University

The Li lab (https://www.purdue.edu/hla/sites/lilab/) at Purdue University seeks applicants for a PhD position that offers interdisciplinary training in plant functional genomics, epigenetics and systems biology.

The PhD student will lead and participate in research projects aiming to characterize gene regulatory networks - including epigenetic regulatory edges - underlying important biological processes such as nutrient signaling and plant development. The mentoring goal is to train plant scientists with molecular toolkits and computational know-how.

Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in genetics, genomics, biology, plant sciences or in any related field. Candidates with a strong background in molecular biology and math are highly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply: Applicants are encouraged to email a one-page cover letter and CV (including skills, previous research/education, GPA, GRE/TOEFL, and the contacts of three references) to [email protected]. Please kindly set the email title as "[PhD_application] Full name". Please also refer to the departmental webpage (https://ag.purdue.edu/hla/Hort/Pages...rogram.aspx#AP) for application procedure, requirements and deadlines. The deadline for fall admission is May 1st, 2017.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
