  • Core bioinformatician- Lund University, Sweden

An opportunity for a Bioinformatician is available at the Biomedical Center (BMC) at Lund University Sweden, in a newly established bioinformatics core. The post holder will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment and will play a key role in providing support to diverse projects across different research areas. The successful candidate will assist with the design, analysis, and interpretation of data primarily from microarray and NGS projects. Alongside high quality support, a contribution is expected towards the expansion of the service in scope and staffing, by increasing the number of users and attracting external funding.

Applicants will have a PhD in bioinformatics or related subject. Advanced scripting, experience in the analysis of genome scale biological datasets (particularly microarray and high throughput sequencing data) and statistics are required. Excellent communication skills together with a clear vision of advances in the field are essential.

Required skills: R/Bioconductor, Perl/Python, UNIX, knowledge of tools required to map and analyse NGS data.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
