  • Sequencing Project Manager

    The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, non-profit organization that leverages the collaborative resources of leading academic medical centers, research universities, and commercial organizations. Our vision is to transform medical research and clinical care in New York and beyond through the creation of one of the largest genomics facilities in North America, integrating sequencing, bioinformatics, and data management, as well as performing cutting-edge genomics research.

    Position Description
    The Sequencing Project Manager will provide support across the full range of sequencing operations at NYGC. This will include day-to-day management of scientific collaborations, involvement in the consultation process with potential customers, driving and developing the grant writing process, and assisting senior managers with daily scientific tasks or projects. In addition, the Sequencing Project Manager will be responsible for tracking inquiries, projects, action items, deadlines, and organizing all supporting information.

    Job duties will include, but are not limited to:
    • Work with lab manager to plan incoming projects and timelines for sample preparation and sequencing
    • Work with PIs on routine questions around sample submission and sequencing processes
    • Generate and submit quotes to investigators
    • Organize quotes and purchase orders and work with finance to coordinate project invoicing
    • Collate sequencing inquiries and track follow-up action items and progress
    • Track conversion of inquiries into actual projects by type for revenue projections
    • Further develop pricing structure and calculations: streamline, organize, and expand
    • Review sequencing run and data QC statistics
    • Coordinate data delivery and communication to investigators
    • Develop and draft the scientific pieces necessary for drafting an NIH grant
    • Support lab manager in screening of laboratory technicians and interviewing candidates

    Position Requirements
    • PhD degree in Genetics or related field of study preferred
    • Strong background in genetics and genomics research, with a thorough understanding of next generation sequencing technologies and a minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience in next-generation sequencing
    • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with a wide range of constituents
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
    • Demonstrated scientific writing skills
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
    • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle interruptions and meet deadlines
    • Ability to identify and solve problems, analyze data and implement/troubleshoot solutions
    • A self-directed individual who is capable of taking initiative and assuming responsibility
