  • Interlaboratory Study 2017 (16S V3-V4/MiSeq)

    Hello everyone,

I would just like to ask if anyone here is interested in participating in an interlaboratory study concerning 16S rRNA gene sequencing? In particular, we are looking for laboratories who are sequencing the V3-V4 region of the 16S using 2x300bp reads on the MiSeq.

In brief, each participant will receive a standardised and homogenous DNA sample. This sample must then be sequenced by each participant. After this, we will gather the results (raw sequences) from all participating laboratories and perform analyses from there. We are interested to know if we can get reproducible results across all laboratories. Each participant will also receive a summary of the result and see how your lab performed compared to the other labs. Any publication resulting from this interlab study each participant will be a co-author of course.

Please let me know if you are interested or know somebody who is. We are happy to send more details via email.

    Thank you.

Are you paying for the sequencing?

No we are not. Since it is a collaborative study, the contribution of each participant is the cost of the sequencing. We recommend that each participant include the "test sample" in their usual 16S run.

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
