  • Run price for 454 ?

Any idea of whats the usual price for a run on a 454?

  • #2
Depends on number of samples (also WGS or paired-end) but 2 samples and 1 run would probably cost you between about £7000-£9,000 UK pounds or $7000-$9000 US dollars.

£7000-£9,000 UK pounds converts to $16,420-$21,150 US dollars according to Google...

Yeah, I probably didn't make myself clear. In the UK we are used to paying a pretty standard conversion of £1 = $1 for anything electronic or technical. So a camera costing $599 in the US will probably cost £599. Various discussions with Americans about sequencing leads me to conclude we are equally screwed when it comes to the cost of sequencing!

So anyway, what do you pay for a plate of 454, out of interest?

The numbers quoted above seem reasonable to me. (The pounds ones, not the dollar ones.)

I paid about 11500 US dollars (for two samples/one run, GS FLX, Titanium) four months ago.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
                by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

                Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
                by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
