  • Complete Genomes on chromosome level

    Hi all

Where can I find a credible and reliable source (website) for downloading genomes on chromosome level only ?!

I don't want contigs or scaffolds, or even cDNAs !!

    Thanks in advance

Note : this question is a cross-reference from this source , and I have my reasons !!

I am going to hazard a guess that you are probably not going to be happy with this answer either but here goes

You can find chromosomal level genomes at multiple sites but I will link just one.
ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genomes/Homo_sapiens/ There are directories in here for each chromosome (and you would want to get the *.fa.gz files). If you don't want the human genome there are others one level up: ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genomes

You must realize by now that only some (e.g. bacterial genomes) are truly complete. For higher eukaryotes none of the genomes are "complete" and they may not be for some time. Current technologies are not able to deal with centromeres, telomeres, repeats (e.g. human rDNA repeat has 400 copies and is on 5 chromosomes) and those are only roughly identified.

If this is not enough then you need to explain what exactly you are trying to do with the data you are asking for.

Thanks a lot GenoMax for the answer , I truly appreciate your help

I do realize that not all phylums are completely sequenced on chromosome level, but I needed this type of data to prove some hypothesis I'm working on regarding Microsatellites (SSRs) in Eukaryotic genomes.

      Thanks again.

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
