Anyone on top of new sequencing companies that are coming up? Off the top of my head I can list
- Base4 - 10X Technologies - Eve Biomedical - Quantapore - Genapsys - Anything else? Does anyone know what these different companies are up to and when they will release products? Also, will be nice to hear from anyone is brave enough to explore starting a new sequencing company. I have some ideas. |

10X Technologies website says they are a sequencing company, but not clear what approach the are using.

There appears to be two very similarly named companies which may be the source of the confusion.
10x Technology LLC of Libertyville, IL (http://www.10xtechnology.com) -- Micro-structure design & manufacturing (not sequencing). 10x Technologies in Pleasanton, CA (http://www.10xtechnologies.com) -- A single page web site saying they are developing new sequencing technologies; no other information provided there. Here is what they say on a job posting that went up just last week (http://www.biospace.com/jobs/job-lis...ngineer-338072): Quote:

AllSeq has a good summary of emerging sequencing technologies.

Q-SEQ from QuantumDX
Alongside QuantuMDx's novel sequencing by synthesis (SBS) DNA sequencing chemistry deployed on its nanowire FET biosensors, QMDx is also developing a novel DNA sequencing technology named Q-SEQ™. This device will perform single molecule, direct read (i.e. no need for reagents or expensive fluorescent detectors), long DNA sequencing reads and is presently at the prototyping stage. http://www.quantumdx.com/ Nabsys positional sequencing Nabsys has designed semiconductor-based nanodetectors to enable direct electrical detection of tagged DNA. http://nabsys.com/ Last edited by niroshan; 02-09-2015 at 01:50 PM. |

I was not sure if to post this here or in the Solid forum, but I figured this would work too, so anyone knows what is going on (if anything) with the Solid platform? How commonly is it (still) used?

This is probably best in the SOLiD platform. But to answer your question, "Not much". On our Sequencing Marketplace, we haven't had a single request for the SOLiD platform. The unsurprising #1 request was Illumina at ~83%. #2 was a tie between PacBio and Ion Torrent (~7% each).

Looks like GenapSys is trying to get some press via the Sigma Aldrich website, but none of the links go anywhere.

GenomeWeb reported yesterday that Sigma-Aldrich was going to co-market the Genius sequencer. There was no launch date mentioned.

At the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference, NanoString Technologies CEO Brad Gray said that the firm has been developing a novel single-molecule hybridization-based sequencing chemistry that leverages the company's optical barcoding technology.
Gray declined to provide details on the chemistry, which he dubbed Hyb&Seq, but said that it would be single-molecule, based on hybridization, and would not require amplification, the use of enzymes, or even library prep. [Link to Genomeweb article] [Link to NanoString Presentation] |
